GP APPOINTMENT SYSTEM CHANGES
We are currently working through an exciting period of change at Fforestfach Medical Centre. Over recent years both Practices at Fforestfach Medical Centre have been affected by the GP recruitment crisis that is becoming widespread across the country, during which time we have been continually reviewing methods of working to maintain high quality care for our patients.
Many Surgeries like ours are facing a time of high demand, increased administrative workload, significant population growth and GP shortages.
You will know that we have been operating a Telephone First GP appointment service for some time, we have made some changes and are developing this system further.
We have listened to the many comments and suggestions from patients, we have reviewed the GP workload and impact of demand on the team. We have worked together to decide how to develop our system further to best meet the needs of our patient population within the resources available to us. Follow this link for more information on our GP Appointment Service and how to get an appointment.

We understand that appointment systems cannot accommodate every scenario but we try our best to help. Demand for our services are extremely high. We urge you to support your GP Practice whilst we introduce changes to ensure we flourish. We would request you only visit your GP Practice when appropriate and you have already taken advice from other services such as a pharmacist, 111, and treated with self-care for minor ailments.
You can obtain FREE medication from your local pharmacy in this area for common ailments, visit this link to find out more: http://www.wales.nhs.uk/news/47950

Please refer to our Privacy Notice for information on how the surgery deals with your personal data.
We are now running Warfarin Monitoring Clinics. Patients prescribed warfarin can now attend the surgery for their regular INR tests. You will receive a letter from the surgery once the hospital has agreed for you to be transferred to the monitoring of the surgery.
When this happens you will be given an appointment. There will be no need for a traditional blood test, our Healthcare Assistants will simply prick your finger to obtain a small sample which is tested while you wait and results are available within 3 minutes. Your warfarin dose is adjusted before you leave and you will be given your next appointment.
